(Out for a walk with an old friend, on the edge of town and country))
“You always hear red kites calling each other these days. They’re all over the place now.
“Why? Well I suppose you have to say they’re a success. A reintroduction that worked.
“I guess you see more jets overhead now because people are going on holiday again.
“Yep, and every flight is helping to kill the planet
“I suppose they think their holiday’s worth it. ‘Oo, I like a bit of warmth.’
“Well I don’t know. I’m not flying anywhere. Maybe holidaymakers like that, maybe they like the idea of loads of dead children in future.
“Do you think there’ll be enough kites to clear up the carrion?
“Oh, I’m sorry. I suppose I cling to the hope that I just feel a bit grim sometimes. But I don’t know.
“Do you think red kites have a distress call if they eat too much?”
