(Talking to a neighbour, about a neighbour)
“Take only memories, leave only footprints. That’s what I was told.
“The four over the road, you see them? Packing their car. It’s got to be too much stuff. They’re only going for a week.
“I say make it simple. Go for walks or something. Slow down. Sit down. Enjoy stuff. You’re on holiday for goodness sake. Enjoy some good meals or something.
“Oh, I don’t know. It’s easy to preach. Not that I’ve said anything to them.
“But I was thinking. I mean, they’re going away for pleasure, right? I read that the best thing you can do to make your own life better is do stuff to make other people’s lives better.
“I don’t know if it’s true but it feels like it is. I don’t know if it’s true for everyone.
“But I’m not preaching to anyone.
“I must reassure them before they go. I’ll keep an eye on their place.”
