“This clapping for the health workers and all that. You know, I used to be dead cynical about that sort of thing. I mean, like, so what?
“What changed me was that tidal wave thing in Japan. I saw some interviews with some of them, survivors, on TV. They said the messages of support they got from all over the world … that the messages helped.
“They said it made them realise they weren’t alone. People cared. That they mattered.
“And that hit home with me.
“I kind of think it’s too easy to be cynical. It’s easier.
“And you know, if I stop to think about it, kindness makes me well up. Even just the clapping. People are so brave. So kind.”
